We are constantly learning, from the time we are born to the moment we expire we are absorbing information. Learning is achieved through conceptual knowledge, conceptual knowledge is the understanding and mastering of concept. We understand and master concepts by observing, studying, practicing, and applying. Concepts shape our thoughts and our thoughts create our reality! When you think about it, we are very familiar with concept stacking because we are always conceptualizing.
Simply put, CONCEPT STACKING is exactly what it says; its the gathering and organizing of concepts (stacking). Although the practice of gathering & organizing concepts to administer in a particular material is very common, QTL has taken what is a common practice and evolved it into a complete method with specific steps for teachers/mamas to use when creating and administering educational materials. The concept stacking method allows for you to offer your child pieces of a puzzle and encourage their efforts so that they are able to produce a whole puzzle and understand how they did it.
-in the diagram below, the subject of MATHEMATICS is a whole puzzle, and the pieces (concepts) that make the puzzle whole are: addition, numbers, subtraction, multiplication, division, and counting; to know mathematics we must understand its concepts-
5 steps for executing QTL's concept stacking method when creating your own curriculum:
1. RESEARCH & CREATE - teacher/mama should have some level of knowledge of the content she will teach and she has to organize & prepare the information to present to her child
2. OBSERVE - introduce a concept to your child (take note of their response, it'll guide you in how to proceed)
3. STUDY - provide an example of the concept to your child (this is where teacher/mama is super hands on working with the child)
4. PRACTICE - allow space and time for your child to gain sufficient information of the concept, process the information of the concept, then practice applying the concept (let go a little, encourage independence)
5. APPLY - now its time for your child to master up and complete an assignment detailing the introduced concept, this will demonstrate his/her understanding of the concept and how to apply it
-In our CREATORS SET you will be able to see how we used QTL's concept stacking method to create a multi age, multi grade level & multi subject curriculum in the format of a coursebook and workbook companion-
